Outside-Insight: Generating more variation

The blindness of organizations is a phenomenon that the management has to deal with each and every day. An organization does not see what it does not see or – in other words – only plays the melody that it learned to play. Under stable circumstances this is not a problem – but what happens if the relevant environments of an organization change rapidly?

Our studies show that a targeted supply with stimuli from the outside is necessary to “energize” the organization. As a result it has enough energy left for the foresighted self-renewal. The concept of the outside-in orientation provides options and opportunities to reach at least the following three goals:

  • Finding out what stakeholders expect at an early stage
  • Using irritation as a basis for the foresighted self-renewal
  • Generating more variation for the expansion of options
